Welcome to The Pastors’ Post, an update for life at Southern Cross. Firstly, Celebration Sunday is coming up this Sunday – we really hope it’s worth the wait! We certainly expect it to achieve our theme, that being: Our Father God Weaves Our Story! For hasn’t 2021 produced another host of tangled threads!? And yet we do believe God is weaving our story through this tangled year to bring about the rich tapestry of his, and his plans and purposes for our church family.
Remember, there is an earlier start time of 9am at the Lismore Showgrounds this Sunday, but do give yourself a bit of time to park and walk to the main pavilion. The earlier start time means we are aiming to beat the heat. But be warned, Celebration Sunday won’t be just like you remembered. Nothing seems to look the same in these complicated days. And yet there will be story, there will be drama, there will be a photo montage, there will be new members, there will be baptisms, there will be cake served in a safe way. However, there will be no lunch, but there will be a family photo and there will be our Celebration Sunday lolly people like never before, because there will be mud! A warning to parents and carers, bring some old, old clothes and shoes and an old towel and a garbage bag or two for the lolly mud run!! It will be the last feature of our Celebration Sunday so you can make a fast getaway back home to clean up and have a rest on Sunday afternoon.
Secondly, Carols is one week away. Remember Southern Cross Goonellabah will be meeting next Sunday at 9am, but there will be no 9:45am or 6pm church family gathering on December 19th. The two Carols sessions are 5pm for one hour and then again at 7pm for one hour at Lismore City Hall. Please book through the link from Lismore City Hall and have your friends or family book through the link too.
Our music team has been working soooo hard in preparation for what ought to be a really excellent night as we reflect and remember that each summer, as we celebrate Christmas, we remember the time our saviour was born.
Finally, Christmas Day, we will be back at Lismore High at 9:45am and back again on Sunday 26th December for Boxing Day 9:45am and Southern Cross Goonellabah will be joining in for both those dates. And then we are back January 2nd, 2022 – 9am with Southern Cross Goonellabah at Invercauld House, 9:45am and 6pm at Lismore High School.
If you missed the staffing announcement for 2022 from last weekend, you can find all the details here in this Pastors’ Post. Or you can meet Jess our new 1 day a week Kids Coordinator here in this Pastors’ Post also.
Hope to see you at the Lismore Show this Sunday for Celebration Sunday. If you are unable to join us, or don’t feel comfortable to, you can listen to an audio of the Bible talk on our website from late Sunday afternoon.
A little spoiler alert – at Celebration Sunday, I will be preaching from Genesis, looking at the chaotic and perplexing life of Joseph as he learned our father God was weaving his story.
Let me finish with his words from Genesis 50 and verse 19.
19 But Joseph said to them,
“Don’t be afraid.
Am I in the place of God?
20 You intended to harm me,
but God intended it for good
to accomplish what is now being done,
the saving of many lives.
Our father God weaves our story.
Thanks for tuning into the Pastors’ Post.
