Here is a short video from one of our pastors, Stew, as he talks about life at SCPC this week.
Welcome to The Pastors’ Post, an update about life at Southern Cross. On Wednesday night this week, our Vision Coordinators and Apprentices met with Paul McKendrick. Paul is Associate Superintendent with Ministry & Mission and his role is to support and encourage healthy pastoral ministry across NSW. He warned us about some of the dangers of Gospel ministry and some prominent Christian leaders who have fallen through grave moral failure or power imbalances.
So he took us to 1 Thessalonians chapter two to be reminded of what healthy Gospel ministry and communities look like. It was a tremendous night, we are grateful to Paul and ministry and mission for their support of Southern Cross and our Gospel Communities.
Now, don’t forget our DNAs will not be meeting next week as Tuesday night is our first Equip night of 2021 as Linda helps us to think of strategies that can help us move across the road to share the Gospel with our neighbours.
Some of the work of Linda and the OMF team in their development of storytelling techniques may become more and more helpful as we engage our post-Christian society and culture. So please join us next Tuesday 23rd Feb at Park Ave, 7:15pm for a 7:30pm start.
Then the next day, we have our first Lounge Room of 2021 with a special guest. I can assure the retirees from Southern Cross it will prove to be a fruitful time as we listen to this Christian leader. They will join us on Zoom, but we invite our retirees to Park Ave from 11am-12:30pm to watch the Zoom meeting together. Alternatively, you can of course Zoom in from home if you are more comfortable to do that. Details will be on the website today regarding next week’s Lounge Room.
Finally, from next Sunday 28th Feb, we will be transitioning to the NSW Services App sign-in QR scanner, in line with business and community groups in NSW. Remember as you may have used the app in many other settings, if you have dependents you can save those settings to aid a more prompt sign in process. We have a NSW services QR code available this Sunday 21st if you wish to trial it ready for the move to that system on Sunday 28th Feb at Southern Cross’s Sunday gatherings.
Let me close with the reading our Vision Coordinators & Apprentices spent some time in on Wednesday night, from 1 Thessalonians 2:
5 You know we never used flattery,
nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed—
God is our witness.
6 We were not looking for praise from people,
not from you or anyone else,
even though as apostles of Christ
we could have asserted our authority.
7 Instead, we were like young children among you.
Just as a nursing mother cares for her children,
8 so we cared for you.
Because we loved you so much,
we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God
but our lives as well.
9 Surely you remember, brothers and sisters,
our toil and hardship;
we worked night and day
in order not to be a burden to anyone
while we preached the gospel of God to you.
10 You are witnesses, and so is God,
of how holy, righteous and blameless
we were among you who believed.
11 For you know that we dealt with each of you
as a father deals with his own children,
12 encouraging, comforting and urging
you to live lives worthy of God,
who calls you into his kingdom and glory.
Thanks for tuning into The Pastors’ Post.
