Welcome to The Pastors’ Post, an update about life at Southern Cross. During the week, we said farewell for a time to our dear sister in Christ, Robyn Mathers. For those who were able to attend the funeral at City Hall yesterday, or see it live streamed, you will remember due to her hope in the resurrection of Jesus, we understand she is but ‘asleep’ until Christ her saviour wakes her on the final day. Have a read of 1 Thessalonians 4 to see the hope she knew in waking to her resurrection life.
It was a real honour to be involved in the day yesterday and also to have spent time with Steve and Robyn last week when she was in hospital. Robyn knew the hope of Christ. That because Christ had died and risen, because she had her faith in him, she too would rise again. So in her battle with cancer she knew in the end it would beat her in this life, but not the one to come. So as she closed her eyes to this life she would open them again to the life to come.
Robyn was remarkably determined to make the funeral as Christian as it could be. So thanks to Laura Kinton and the music team from Southern Cross who performed songs that celebrated the life on offer in Christ. Please continue to pray for Steve and the family, that they would feel they can grieve this loss, but know they do not need to grieve without hope.
Let me read to you from 1 Thessalonians 4:
13 Brothers and sisters,
we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death,
so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.
14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus
those who have fallen asleep in him.
