Here is a short video from one of our pastors, Stew, as he talks about life at SCPC this week.
Below is the text from the video.
Welcome to The Pastors’ Post, an update about life at Southern Cross.
Food for Thought Sunday is only one week away! Next Sunday, 22nd November is our ‘Food for Thought Sunday’, to be held in the heart of our city, at the Workers Club Auditorium. This is a fantastic opportunity to invite your friends and family to meet Jesus who, as Galatians reminds us, gave himself to rescue us. This life saving message will be made known at 9am, 11am and 6pm. Each gathering will go for about one hour and include two songs from our music team, some questions we posed to some members of our city about who they think Jesus is were recorded and will be shown, and an evangelistic Bible talk from Luke Tattersall.
Please register for you and your friends on our website for contact tracing. It includes a tally and there are still a heap of seats available. At the end of each session if you wish to stay for a meal you will need to make a booking through the Workers Club. If you are attending the 9am session, contact the club and make a booking at Reflections Café which is downstairs. If you are attending the 11am session, you may like to contact the Club to make a booking at Cedar’s Bistro. They begin serving lunch from 12 midday. If you are attending the 6pm session, again you may like to book at Cedar’s Bistro for dinner. Remember, you can book up to 30 people, so this is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends to, to a non-threating and well known location that then allows the conversation to continue over a meal.
We suggest you aim to arrive early to each session to ensure you have time to register at the Club and then to register with our welcoming team inside the Club for contact tracing. As with all clubs, due to COVID legislation, you are required to be seated. There will be COVID marshals with the club and also a small number of COVID marshals from SCPC, to ensure we keep moving. So again please make the most of the opportunity to book a table with the Club or, once the session is complete, you will be required to move to your vehicle and depart the Club.
But finally, you would remember this is ‘Food for Thought Week’ that starts this coming Monday! So get your DNA together next week for a meal and invite a friend along. You might even like to get along to the Workers Club and you could add these kinds of questions into the conversation:
1. How much influence do you think Jesus has had on the world we live in today?
2. Do you think Jesus is still relevant today?
3. Do you think Jesus has had an impact on your life?
Then next Friday morning, 20th November at 7am, we have invited those who work in the CBD of Lismore to get along to the ‘Bible Means Business’ breakfast at The Loft Restaurant. If you haven’t received an invitation and you work or have a friend who works in the CBD please get in contact with the office.
Then at the hospital also on Friday 20th November from 1pm-2pm there will be a BYO lunch meeting that will explore the influence of Jesus on our world for friends and family that work in and around the hospital. Please commit yourself to praying for Food for Thought Week, that many in our city would be saved.
Let me finish by reading this fantastic section from John 4. We’re going to be opening up to John 4 at Food for Thought Sunday. That remarkable conversation between the Samaritan Woman and Jesus and his invitation to drink living water. This is where the story finishes, this is from John 4:39:
39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him
because of the woman’s testimony,
“He told me everything I ever did.”
40 So when the Samaritans came to him,
they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days.
41 And because of his words many more became believers.
42 They said to the woman,
“We no longer believe just because of what you said;
now we have heard for ourselves,
and we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world.”
Thanks for tuning into The Pastors’ Post.
