2 Kings 3:1-4:44
Reading chapter 4 brought to mind a couple of things from the ministry of Jesus. Often when we think of Jesus and his ministry, we think of it as that of a king or messiah, the one anointed by God to lead his people (as we should). 1 Samuel has been reminding us how Jesus is the perfect king. Jesus is also know as a priest something Hebrews will bring out when we study it together in term 3.
Reading these section though shows that Jesus reflected the ministry of prophet as well. Elisha raising a child to life; Jesus raises a child life (Mark 5:21-43). Elisha feeds many with such a little; Jesus feeds many with but 5 loaves and 2 fish (Mark 6:30-44). Most importantly Jesus always upheld the word of the Lord (Matt 4:1-11).
Jesus, Prophet, Priest and King.
Thanks for pointing that out Stewart. I’ve been reading “Dig Deeper” that Pete gave me and I’ve been wondering what “tool” to use to help me understand this passage. I was thinking along the same lines as you re Jesus and Elisha!
Yeah David… I can often see the link between Jesus and Kingship and even the priesthood. But his prophetic role can be a little bit tricky, I reckon anyway.
