The Big Idea
The gospel has the power to remind us of our true wealth and to promote genuine generosity.

Hi,
I’ve really enjoyed reading scripture lately and noting what motives the Bible gives us to act and/or think differently. This week’s passage is full of interesting statements about why we should be generous. Please take the time to read the passage yourself and read these verses for yourself.
The other thing I thought was helpful, was an old post on this web site called “my giving at scpc”. There was a pamphlet put out called “my giving at scpc”. The following is based on parts of it:
1. What the Bible says about how much to give and where the guideline of 10% comes from in the Old Testament;
2. How the New Testament encourages generosity even beyond that – it is all based on responding to God’s great generosity and how much He has given in His own son Jesus. Our response to God should be not holding back for the work of the gospel.
3. Our giving for the work of the gospel should be:
– Generous; and
– Consistent
Being consistent is why we encourage giving via direct deposit/automatic transfers. To give electronically, set up a direct deposit into BSB 062-674 and account number 28009463 (account name Southern Cross Presbyterian Church). This type of giving can be anonymous and set up on your PC at home. If you would like to do this, but don’t know how to do it, you could ask a trusted friend or your financial institution.
It would be great if our church wasn’t bogged down in talking about finances or fundraising or budget shortfalls all the time, but could focus on gospel work.
2 Corinthians 8:7 But just as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us – see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
