The more I read of the Bible, the more I realize what a difficult book it is. I don’t mean that it’s difficult to understand (although that is sometimes true) but rather that it is hard to accept, not because it is hard to believe, but because of the ugly truth it reveals about me. Try as I might to hide my sin, all attempts prove futile under the searching spotlight of God’s holy word.
Yet I find myself greatly comforted by God’s many promises. This week James 4:6 has been especially helpful…
But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
