1 John 1:1-4:21
Alannah Miles had a go at describing Love:
Love is ( love is )
What you want it to be
Love is ( love is )
Heaven to the lonely
Show me
What you want me to do
Cause love is
What I got for you
1 John, is much more accurate, don’t you think?
It tells us of false love:
15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[f] is not in them. 1 John 2:15
True love:
1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! 1 John 3:1
16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 1 John 3:16
9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:9-10
& the call to Love:
23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 1 John 3:23
11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:11-12
19 We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19
Here’s my attempt at helping Alannaht get it right on love:
Love is (love is)
What God has shown to me
Love is (love is)
Not just for the lovely
You have shown me
What you want me to do (to others)
Cause love is
What shows God in you
Thanks Stew for pointing out a big theme in 1 John. Thanks for serving us by blogging a comment for the “Bible in a yr”. Merry Christmas to you and everyone. See you in 2011!
