2 Samuel 14:25 – 17:29
Happy April fools – I was trying to think of something funny to write but couldn’t think of anything that wasn’t offensive. Anyway have a good day.
The more I read the Old Testament the more I realise how much God is in control and how faithful he is to his word even when everything looks pear shaped. Take today’s reading, it looks like everything is going down hill quickly for Israel (and it is ) but in it God is remaining faithful to his words of judgment (Spoken to David through the prophet Nathan). Compare the following verses.
2 Samuel 12:11-12 11 “This is what the LORD says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight. 12 You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.’ “
2 Samuel 16:21-22 21 Ahithophel answered, “Lie with your father’s concubines whom he left to take care of the palace. Then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself a stench in your father’s nostrils, and the hands of everyone with you will be strengthened.” 22 So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and he lay with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.
I know that the first reading talks of David’s wives and that the second reading talks about David’s concubines but other than that it seems like God is dishing out his judgment on David.
The amazing thing in the Bible is God’s faithfulness and we ultimately see it in Jesus’ death and resurrection, and in the giving of his Spirit. I guess the more amazing thing about God’s faithfulness is that he remains faithful to people like me and you even when we live lives that hardly indicate that we think he is faithful. We follow an amazing God.
