You might be wondering why, with your invitation to Celebration Sunday, you received a piece of Calico? Because God’s weaves our story! I still imagine some quite confused looks?
Well, leading into Celebration Sunday we want to create something physical for what we believe spiritually. So to help us to prepare for what we will hear from God’s word on Celebration Sunday, that God indeed weaves or stitches our story, we want to create a very large sheet of all our small pieces of calico sewn together! Yes, from all our pieces sewn together, one BiG piece to hang on Celebration Sunday.
So ok, what do YOU do with your calico square? Well, draw, write, craft your story of how you understand God to be at work in your life; in the good, in the bad, in the ugly. Kids Church are working on theirs over Term 3 so you, your Gospel Community, your DNA, will need to find a time to think about doing it.
Of course, it’s your story, so you can do it anytime. Or you might choose to do it with some for an afternoon, on a weekend, or simply draft up a plan of what you would do during a DNA this term and then do it later in your own time.
We are hoping to get the completed squares Sunday the 29th of August so the great stitch-up can begin, ready for Celebration Sunday on 12th of September. How do you feel about it? I imagine some anxious looks. Some “are they serious!?” kinda looks and then some of you going “hmmm…ok…what could I do?”. And if this comes off, what a story to tell! God weaving, stitching, sewing our story together. Unified. Joined. Connected.
So remember, get your calico in: Sunday 29th of August
And get ready for Celebration Sunday: Sunday 12th September.
Is God weaving your story? Yes he is! He has been doing it since before the day you were born!!

How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
God is weaving our story. That is what we’re going to be celebrating this Celebration Sunday.
