Welcome to The Pastors’ Post, an update about life at Southern Cross.
As you may have heard on Wednesday this week, the NSW government has increased the numbers at a religious gathering to 300. Structurally, this won’t change anything for our Sunday gatherings at SCPC as Lismore High is closed for use due to the HSC.
We will know more about the prospect of gaining access to the hall next week as Bronwyn and I are due to meet with the Lismore High School principal next Wednesday 28th October. We already know there are more renovations to take place after the HSC, so we’re interested in proposing to the school a return to the venue for Carols on Sunday 20th December. So please pray for our time with the Lismore High School Principal and our whole church family in East Lismore as we contemplate a change and a possible return to Lismore High School over the summer school holiday period. Please, if you have questions, speak to a member of our staff team, Leadership Team or your Vision Coordinator.
What this increase will mean is that we can open our Food for Thought Sunday to more people on 22nd November at the Worker’s Club. At this point, we will continue with two morning gatherings: one at 9am and also one at 11am (and then our normal 6pm gathering time). As there is a restraint to the number of children we can have present due to the size of the rooms used for kids church at 9am and 11am, which is 72 in each session. But what a fantastic opportunity instead of the prospect of 300 adults and 144 kids, we could have 525 adults and 144 kids at the Workers Club on 22nd November for Food for Thought Sunday!
So if you are interested, in the lead up to Food for Thought Week, we will join for prayer at the Quad at 6:30am-7am on Friday 6th November and Friday 13th November. We understand only a few will be able to make that, but please be praying personally, at home and with your Gospel Community that our Father God might rescue some from our city that they might be saved!!
Finally, thanks for those who attended our preliminary information meeting last Sunday. It was a long meeting, longer than we had anticipated, but we wanted an opportunity to explain the workings of the transition team and the process that went into endorsing Tim McDonald as the Families Pastor for 2021.
We covered the motion that we will put forward to the church family on 1st November at the Congregational meeting so if you have questions about the motions please speak to a member of Leadership Team or the Transition Team so that we have an opportunity to answer your questions more fully before then. This will enable the congregational meeting to run smoothly on 1st November at 11:30am at Park Ave.

I simply love the verse MTS uses as part of its vision statement. It is such a crucial one for the life of the church today and for the next generation:

2 And the things you have heard me say
in the presence of many witnesses
entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
