Welcome to The Pastors’ Post, an update about life at Southern Cross.
Well, we need to pray don’t we? It is at the hardest moments of life that we are helpless, unable to find answers, we are desperate. And so we pray.
Prayer is something that has dominated this week, after the tragic news of the death of Eddy on Monday night. On Tuesday, we were able to pray with Nick and Ange. Can I encourage you again, to please pray for the family. If you would like to contribute to the family you may be interested in giving towards ‘The Common Fund’ as we provided the family with a care package and flowers that indicated our care for them on Tuesday night. The funds could also assist with the cost of the funeral and any video production that may be involved to allow others to participate in the funeral over livestream. You can contribute to ‘The Common Fund’ through PayPal on our website www.scpc.org.au. Add ‘Eddy’ to the remitter name or payment description.
Then on Wednesday, Ian and Susan with the some of our youth leaders were able to meet and pray with our youth on Wednesday afternoon at huMPDay our youth program.
And tonight, I invite any parents or carers of youth who would like to come to my place between 7pm and 9pm, to come and pray. If you are a parent or a carer of youth and would like to pray tonight, please head to our website and register your interest in joining to pray tonight so that we can adhere to governments restriction of numbers gathering in a home.
And we invite the whole church family to join us in one of our four locations on Sunday morning, or over ZOOM, to join us in prayer, for part-way through our gathering this Sunday 20th September, we will have a time for anyone from our church family to pray. I should note those from our church family who attend our 6pm gathering are invited to join with their Gospel Communities on Sunday morning, either at 9am if you are from Southern Cross Goonellabah, or at the location that your Gospel Community that meets at 9:45am, as there will be no gathering this Sunday at 6pm. Please speak to your Vision Coordinator if you have questions.
But on Sunday, we will see and be encouraged from God’s Word that we have a God who is not distant. In fact, we have a Father who can be found, and in whom we can find rest in his care. Sunday we were due to celebrate, and yet it will be a celebration of a different kind as we celebrate the remarkable news that we can have a living and everyday and vital relationship with the God of this world.
Let me read to you from 1 Thessalonians 5 from verse 16:
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil.
23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
