The Pastors’ Post

Here is an important video from one of our pastors, Stew.

Below is the text from the video.

Welcome to The Pastors’ Post, an update for life at Southern Cross.

It is with extraordinarily great sadness that I inform our church family on behalf of, and with consent from the family involved, that Eddy, the eldest son of Nick and Ange, was killed in an accident while driving by himself in East Lismore last night around 7pm.

As you can imagine, the family is devastated by the loss. Matt C and I were able to visit Nick and Ange this morning, to cry with them, and to pray with them. Can we encourage our church family as a whole to be praying for Nick and Ange, and for Eddy’s sister and brother. The added heartache for the family at this time is the challenges surrounding restrictions and the numbers allowed at a funeral.

Please pray for the family, please pray for our local member, pray for other community agencies, and pray for our state denomination as we explore options that will be available to the family. But we do ask for great wisdom and sensitivity from you as the family explores these options. We will continue to liaise with Nick and Ange and provide you with information if the family deems it appropriate regarding the funeral.

To our youth that knew Eddy and are trying to come to terms with the loss, huMPDay, our Wednesday afternoon youth program, will take place tomorrow at 3:15pm at Park Ave with Ian our Families Pastor, to allow youth the opportunity to talk and to pray about the news of Eddy’s passing.

To the rest of our church family, again, at this point, pray. And if you would like to contribute to the family you may be interested in giving towards ‘The Common Fund’ so we can provide the family with a care package and flowers that indicate our care for them at this time. And the funds could also assist with the cost of the funeral and any video production that may be involved to allow others to participate in the funeral over live stream. You can contribute to ‘The Common Fund’ through PayPal through our website at www.scpc.org.au. Add ‘Eddy’ to the remitter name or payment description. Again, we are unsure about the details of the funeral and the family too is unsure of when it will even be able to take place.

Our week ahead at Southern Cross Presbyterian Church from 20th September through to 26th September was to be a time for our church family to come together in whatever ways possible for us, to reflect upon the ways that we could consider how we could “Rest in our Father God’s care”. This grieving family and our grieving church family needs to desperately rest in this hope.

Let me read to you from Matthew 6:25

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or drink;
or about your body, what you will wear.
Is not life more than food,
and the body more than clothes?
26 Look at the birds of the air;
they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not much more valuable than they?

Please pray for this family that the worries that fill their minds, and the scariness of the darkness of night, and the worries that may overwhelm them, please pray for Nick and Ange, that they would know of our Father’s care for them in the midst of these worrying days.

That is all from today’s Pastors’ Post.
